Yard Waste Dumpster Rental across Cumberland County and the Sandhills
Yards here make debris in bursts. A storm comes through and limbs are down; a landscaping redo pulls out beds, shrubs, sod and mulch all at once; fall cleanup fills bag after bag. Weekly collection is not built for it: Fayetteville takes up to 10 containerized items of yard waste a week, and large limbs only up to 5 feet long and 6 inches across, in piles no bigger than 10 cubic yards — and never yard waste or limbs a contractor cut. A container on the driveway takes all of it, the week it happens.
Two things shape the job. Clean green waste is worth keeping clean: North Carolina bans yard trash from ordinary landfills and from construction and demolition landfills, so a green load goes to a compost or land-clearing site like the county's Wilkes Road facility, and lumber, plastic or bagged trash mixed in turns it into a load nobody wants. And yard waste is bulky and light until it is not: soil, sod, wet leaves and stumps are heavy. We size for the mix.
At a glance
What you get with yard waste dumpster rental
- Branches, brush, shrubs, leaves, grass clippings, sod, mulch, wood chips and stumps cut to size
- A 15 or 20 yard for most homes, a 10 for soil
- Same-day or next-day after a storm when you call before noon, depending on availability
- No bags, no trailer trips, no item limits
- Clean green waste kept separate for composting
- Landscapers, HOAs and property managers: scheduled pickups and separate containers for mixed jobs
Storm cleanup, tree work and landscape redos
Storm cleanup is the big one. A storm takes out limbs and fences across whole neighborhoods at once, and the town programs cannot keep up: Fayetteville charges $357 a load for limb piles of 10 cubic yards or more, scheduled; Hope Mills collects bulk yard waste but charges for piles over 5 by 5 by 3 feet (Sec. 78-10); and the county's container sites take only 4 cubic yards a week from homeowners. A 20 yard on the driveway takes the lot in one go.
Landscape and tree jobs are the planned version — beds, shrubs and hedges out, a tree trimmed or removed, mulch replaced, a property readied for sale or a rental turnover, a fence or deck replaced alongside. Landscapers, HOAs and property managers book scheduled pickups, and for mixed jobs we can set separate containers for the green waste and everything else.
Soil, stumps and the weight line
Branches, brush and hedge trimmings are light. Soil, sod, wet leaves, stumps and roots are not. A 20 of brush is nowhere near its weight allowance; a 20 heaped with dirt is well over it. Tell us the mix and we will size it — usually a 15 or 20 for the green waste and, if there is a lot of soil, a 10 loaded level alongside. Keep dirt and rock out of the green load: Wilkes Road prices yard waste with no soil in it, and clean dirt and rock go to the landfill's inert area instead.

Yard waste — the local specifics
Every town runs its own yard program, and none of them is built for a whole yard at once. Cumberland County: the Wilkes Road Compost Facility & LCID at 771 Wilkes Rd takes yard waste, trees, branches, straw, leaves, hedge clippings, grass and clean, unpainted, untreated wood including pallets and stumps, at $22.50 a ton for yard and land-clearing debris with no soil and $11.25 a ton for clean pallets and logs, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Stumps over 4 feet across, painted or treated wood, paneling, plywood and particle board go to the Ann Street Landfill instead. Fayetteville: weekly yard waste up to 10 containerized items, free large-limb pickup within the size limits, and no collection of contractor-cut yard waste or of vacant-lot land clearing. Hoke County's transfer station in Raeford takes yard waste at $19 a ton. A container is for the pile that is bigger, heavier or sooner than that. The what can and cannot go in guide explains what has to stay out of a green load and where it goes instead.

Answers
Yard Waste Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Do I need to bag or bundle the brush?
No. Throw it in as it comes — no bagging, no bundling. The only things that matter are staying level with the top edge and keeping household trash out of it.
Can I put dirt in a yard waste dumpster?
Yes, in its own 10 yard loaded level. Soil is heavy, and a bigger box heaped with it is more than the truck can safely haul. Tell us it is part of the job when you book and we will plan the loads.
Can I put a whole tree in?
Cut to fit, yes — branches, trunks and stumps are fine. Keep everything level with the top edge. Big stumps and root balls are heavy, so tell us about them.
How fast after a storm can you deliver?
Call before noon the morning after and we can often have a container on the driveway the same day or next day. In a big storm week we tell you honestly where you are in the queue.
Do you compost or recycle green waste?
Clean green loads go to approved compost and land-clearing facilities such as the county's Wilkes Road site, where they are composted rather than landfilled. Treated lumber, plastic or household trash in the box spoils that.
