Residential Dumpster Rental across Cumberland County and the Sandhills
Homes around here vary enough that one container does not fit all of them. An older lot in Haymount or a tight cul-de-sac wants a 10 or a 15 and a driver who takes it slowly. A newer subdivision in Hope Mills or Spring Lake may have room for a 20, and an HOA with its own covenants. A country lot out toward Stedman, Wade or Linden has room for anything. The first thing we ask on the phone is what your driveway looks like.
Most residential jobs are one of three things: a cleanout (a garage, an attic, or a whole house before a move or a sale), a remodel (kitchen, bath, flooring, roof), or the yard — landscaping, a tree coming down, storm cleanup. Each wants a different size and a different talk about weight. The size comparison covers the numbers, the home renovation guide covers the planning, and the phone call covers your job.

What actually fills a residential container
Garage, attic and estate cleanouts lead the way: furniture, boxes, mattresses, clothing, the contents of a shed. Kitchen and bath remodels are next — cabinets, tile, drywall, flooring, fixtures. Then the outdoor jobs: shingles off a roof after a storm, an old deck or fence, a landscaping redo, storm limbs.
Weekly trash is not built for any of that. In Fayetteville, City crews take up to five bulky items free; six or more have to be paid for and scheduled. Household construction debris from owners and renters is collected only by appointment, seven days ahead, at $50 for under 10 cubic yards, $100 for 10 to 20 and $357 for more than 20 — and debris a contractor made is not collected at all. Stedman picks up bagged trash only. The county's container sites are for homeowners' household trash and take no construction or demolition waste, furniture or mattresses. Anything bigger, heavier or sooner than that is what a residential roll-off is for.
Driveway placement, street rules and HOAs
On your own driveway in Fayetteville we found no City permit for a roll-off. Boards can go under the dumpster to protect the surface, and the driver sets the container where you want to load it — on a hard, flat surface, off soft ground. The street is another matter. A container on a City of Fayetteville street or sidewalk needs the City's Temporary Right-of-Way Encroachment permit — $75 per 30 days on the FY2025-26 fee schedule (check the current fee) — through the Engineering Division. It is good for 30 days, you keep a 4-foot path for pedestrians or post ‘Sidewalk Closed’ signs, and City Code Sec. 24-6 requires anything left in the street to be lit at night.
Two more things. HOAs: covenants can cover containers on your lot, so check yours before you book a longer rental. And the other towns differ: Hope Mills' code keeps obstructions out of its streets and sidewalks (Sec. 86-4); Spring Lake's keeps rubbish, lumber and dirt off its sidewalks (Sec. 34-49); Raeford bans obstructions in streets and sidewalks (Sec. 16-1); and on a state-maintained road, NCDOT's written permit applies (G.S. 136-93). Each town page says what that town's code asks for.

Residential dumpster rental — the North Carolina specifics
North Carolina keeps a list of things no one may knowingly put in a landfill, and a mixed roll-off load ends up at one. G.S. 130A-309.10(f) bans used oil, yard trash, white goods, antifreeze, aluminum cans, whole scrap tires, lead-acid batteries, motor vehicle oil filters, recyclable plastic bottles, discarded computer equipment and televisions — and from December 1, 2026, lithium-ion batteries too (subsection (16)). White goods means fridges, freezers, ranges, water heaters, washers, dryers, dishwashers and unit air conditioners. Each lead-acid battery improperly disposed of is a separate violation (G.S. 130A-309.70). Where they go instead in Cumberland County: appliances to the Ann Street Landfill white goods area or any county container site, with fridges and freezers emptied and the doors removed; computers, electronics and TVs to the Ann Street Recycling Center or a county container site; and up to five tires a year free for homeowners at Ann Street. The what can and cannot go in guide covers the rest.

Answers
Residential Dumpster Rental — your questions answered
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Not if it is set properly. Ask for boards under the dumpster and the driver puts them down. Tell us before delivery if a surface worries you — fresh concrete, pavers, a cracked slab, grass or soft ground — and we will plan around it.
Can I put the dumpster on the street instead?
In Fayetteville, only with the City's Temporary Right-of-Way Encroachment permit — $75 per 30 days on the FY2025-26 fee schedule, so check the current fee — and blocking a sidewalk without one is a misdemeanor under City Code Sec. 24-18. Elsewhere it varies: Raeford bans obstructions in its streets and sidewalks, Hope Mills' code keeps them out of its streets, and state-maintained roads need NCDOT's written permit. The driveway is always simpler.
Does my HOA have a say?
On the driveway, often yes. Covenants can cover containers on your lot, and we do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book, especially for a longer rental.
Can I put old appliances in the dumpster?
No. Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters and window units are white goods, and North Carolina bans them from landfills (G.S. 130A-309.81). Cumberland County takes them at the Ann Street Landfill white goods area or any county container site — fridges and freezers emptied, doors off. TVs and computers are banned from landfills too. Tell us what you have, or let our junk removal crew take them.
How long can I keep the container?
The standard rental is up to 7 days. If the job runs on, call or text and we extend it at a low daily rate. If you finish early, we pick it up early.
Do you serve outside Fayetteville?
Yes — fourteen more towns across Cumberland County and just over the line in Hoke, Harnett, Robeson, Sampson and Moore counties, from Spring Lake to Parkton. Each has its own page. A few of the counties license or permit the haulers that work there — we are licensed in the towns that require it — and we say so plainly on each page.
